27 January 2017 – Advent Announcements

Voter’s Meeting will be this Sunday, January 29, immediately after the worship service. We will be voting on the 2017 Budget, 2016 Mission funding, and an amendment to the Synod’s constitution.

Support for Missions: Check out the bulletin board for the latest letter from LCMS Missionaries Shauen and Krista Trump. The congregation has financially supported them in the past and will be voting on directing some of our 2016 Mission funds to them. Tuesday Morning Women’s Bible Study will meet on February 7 at 10:30 a.m. and begin a study of “Entrusted, A Study of 2 Timothy” by Beth Moore. This six-session study encourages us to walk in strong faith as we guard what God has entrusted to us: the gospel and our gifting. Study book cost is $13. Change the World: One Life at a Time – 500th Reformation Anniversary Celebration: The most important way you can help right now is to prayer for the event. Talk with Judy Neely if you would like to part of the prayer team.

Worship Leader Schedule: Jan. 29, Feb. 5, and Feb. 26 – Pastor McDaniels; Feb. 12 – Pastor Lineberger; Feb. 19 – Pastor Williamson

Call Committee: We received a list of 8 candidates from the SED. Pastor Lineberger has contacted all of them. Two have asked to be removed from the list and two are currently interviewing. This leaves us with four to six potential candidates. The Call Committee will meet on January 31 to begin reviewing the profiles of each pastor and preparing interview questions. Check our website or the green binder on the table in the narthex for the latest information.

Change the World: One Life at a Time – 500th Reformation Anniversary Celebration: On Sunday, November 5, 2017, Dorton Arena on the NC State Fairgrounds will be filled with songs of praise to our Lord. Following a moving time of worship with thousands of voices, we will move to serve our neighbors. A health and dental clinic is planned for the afternoon and early evening as well as a Kids Zone, an art show, and choral concert. The most important way you can help right now is to prayer for the event. Talk with Judy Neely if you would like to part of the prayer team. Watch for more information in the near future for other ways you can help.

Blessed Epiphany!

Snow: If services are cancelled this weekend due to weather, notification will be posted via email, on Facebook and our website, and on several TV stations. Be on the lookout! See inclement weather policy below.

Worship Leader Schedule: Jan. 8 and 29 – Pastor McDaniels; Jan. 15 – Pastor Lineberger; Jan. 22 – Pastor Williamson.

Confirmation Class will be held this Sunday morning during the Sunday School hour (weather permitting.)

Women’s Evening Bible Study meets on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. The course of study is “God Is in the Laundry Room” by Susan Senechal. Contact Karen Baker with questions.

Men’s Bible Study meets on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. The topic of the current study is Part 2 of “A Man Called Luther.” Please see John Cangelosi with questions.

Inclement weather policy: The Pastor will confer with the President, the Chair of the Board of Worship, and an Elder to reach a decision about cancellation of a Worship service or other event. If the event is cancelled, the congregation will be informed by email no later than two hours before the event is scheduled to begin. The office manager will set up a phone tree to call all members who do not use email as soon as the decision is made and will notify local ABC and NBC stations. The announcement will also be posted on the Advent website and Facebook as soon as possible. If a service is not cancelled and someone feels unsafe driving, they are encouraged to stay home.
