22 November 2019 – Advent Announcements

Thanksgiving Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Please join us to thank God for everything He has given us.

Stewardship – Advent’s November focus has been “30 Days of Thankfulness: Empowered by Grace,” Commitment Sunday is this Sunday, November 24. Using our time, talent and treasures for God’s purpose is a natural outcome of being thankful for all that God does for us.

Blessing Bags – Another Outreach Opportunity: Our Thanks-Giving Tree is set up in the Narthex to call attention to items needed to fill Blessings Bags, care kits to give homeless people we encounter. Our goal is to fill 100 bags so each Advent family will have several to share. Please note the sample bag, select tags from the tree, and return your items (with the tags) by November 24. We are planning a packing party after worship on December 1. Yes, let’s include the children at every level! This activity is also supported by a $250 Thrivent grant. Contacts: Judy Neely, Carolyn Jones, and Lydia Berrong

Christmas Decorating: The Sanctuary will be decorated for Christmas on Saturday, November 30, at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome to help. We also need a few helpers to set up the tree ahead of time, sometime after the Thanksgiving Service on Nov. 26.

Women of Advent: The Women of Advent will hold their annual Christmas Brunch on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 9:30 a.m. at the home of Carolyn Hinkle. All women and guests of Advent are invited to attend. A letter with more information and directions is in the Narthex. If there are any questions, please see Maryanne Warne.

Thank you, Thrivent: Thrivent Financial has recently supported three Advent Outreach activities with $250 cash grants for “Trunk or Treat,” “Share the Warmth,” and “Blessings Bags.” Thrivent has sent us t-shirts to thank YOU for your participation and support for our Outreach activities. T- shirts (children’s and adult sizes) are on display in the narthex – please stop by and take yours!

“Arise, shine, for your light has come” (Isaiah 60:1) In this year’s Advent and Christmas series, we welcome the Christ Child, who is the light of the world, arising in our lives this season. In celebration, we, in turn, shine with the light of Christ in various ways for all the world to see the brightness of His love. Each week will focus on a different aspect of the light of Christ and how we are enlightened by Him throughout our lives.
