1 May, 2020 – Advent Announcements

Coronavirus and the Church-001

RETURNING TO CHURCH – The Church Council has begun discussion on our returning to church in person. We’ll consider the Governor’s Order and Suggestions, and we’ll look at going back when it is safe to do so.

Based on our last round of health, safety and spiritual calls, everyone is well and doing OK.

Thanks to everyone who provided input for returning to face to face services. Nearly all aspects were included in the recommendations. The primary areas addressed included communion, seating, worship (songs/service), fellowship, greeting, passing the peace and refreshments.

Also, we are discussing our entering the building and moving around. We are considering flow and cleanliness. It is likely we will enter through the front/main entrance. We’ll wear masks and keep social distance measures, as well have as a dismissal.

We are concerned about keeping everyone healthy and are looking at everything: Bibles and hymnals; Bulletins/Video Screen; Communion preparation and practices; Removal/moving of chairs throughout the building; Having 2 services; Deep cleaning/Continual clean-up; Considering the Governor’s guidelines; Etc.

In our considerations, were looking at our populous of those who attend and serve, and bearing in mind age and health concerns, we want to use due care in this situation.

Finally, each family/person will make their own decision on when it is safe to return to church.

The Council will have a Zoom meeting next week (after the Governor’s announcements) to start the development of a plan of action and steps that will be taken before we “open the doors.”  As this plan develops, we will keep you informed of the progress and the actions that will be taken. Thanks and be safe. Advent Church Council

Helping Those in Need During CoVid-19 – We continue to reach out during this time and we have checked with PORCH (People Offering Relief for Chapel Hill-Carrboro Homes).  The best way to work with them as we are in this pandemic, is to go directly to their website: www.chapelhill.porchcommunities.org. Then, click on the floating banner in red, which says Click here for how to help during COVID-19 crisis. They accept financial donations, they then safely provide to those who are in need of help. For non-perishable food donations, they are referring people to places we have worked with before, such as:  Inter-faith Council For Social  Services  http://www.ifcweb.org and Orange Congregations In Mission www.ocimnc.org. Thanks for continued to care for our community!

Additionally, the Town of Chapel Hill has provided a document for information on food provision in the area. If you would need a Spanish or Mandarin version of this document to forward, please reply to this email. Also, the Town has a Resources for Muslims during Ramadan document, if you need that forwarded. Here is the Town’s food provision document (you may have to “cut and paste”:  file:///C:/Users/Pastor%20Scott%20Lohman/Downloads/ENGLISH%20COVID-19%20Food%20Distribution%20Flyer%20(1).pdf
