Come join us at Advent on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 5:15 pm for Praise and Pizza. It will be a time of praise music, prayer and a video titled, “God’s Story, Your Story… when His becomes yours!” by Max Lucado. This video casts a fresh perspective on how your daily life relates to God’s grand, epic story. Your life story is part of an overarching narrative where you can witness God’s hand at work and discover your Savior’s unchanging, loving pursuit of you through the chaos of life.
Following this, will be a time for pizza and fellowship. All are welcome! It’s Free! And it’s a great opportunity to bring someone who may not attend church or who is searching for a better understanding of how their story is part of God’s. Praise Music begins at 5:15. Please join us and bring a friend!

“The Power of Simple Prayer”
How is your prayer life?
In order to answer that question, we need to answer a couple of others:
• “What is prayer?”
• “Does prayer depend on us, or is it something that depends on God?”
• “How does prayer fit into God’s grace?”
• “So, what does it mean to ‘pray without ceasing’?”

Most of you know Joseph Sheref as a fellow brother in Christ and a member of Advent Lutheran Church. Joseph came to the states from Sierra Leone in 2000 and has been working since then to bring his family to Chapel Hill. After numerous setbacks, final approval has been obtained for Joseph’s family to join him! His wife Aime, his daughter Koni (19), and his two sons Lansama (21) and Tommy (16) depart from Freeport, Sierra Leone on September 6 and arrive in Raleigh on September 7.
Please join us immediately after the worship service on Sunday, August 30 for a Hot Dog Lunch Fundraiser. Lunch is free, but donations will be accepted. All funds raised will be used to help cover plane fare for the Sheref family.
Our next Saturday Night Praise & Pizza is on Saturday, April 18, 5:15 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The theme is “Celebrating the One Who Died in Our Place!” The event will begin with a Praise Service that will include music, prayer, and the video “In My Seat – A Pilot’s story from Sept 10-11, 2011.” We will conclude with fellowship time and a pizza dinner. The event is free and everyone is welcome. Please join us!
About the video: Steve Scheibner went to bed September 10, 2001, with his bags packed and ready to go. He was scheduled to be the pilot on American Airlines Flight 11 the next day. When he woke in the morning, however, a rare last-minute substitution meant someone else would pilot that plane … the first plane that hit the World Trade Center on 9/11. Steve knows firsthand what it means to have someone else die in his place, not once … but twice. His powerful and moving testimony of God’s providence will inspire you to examine your own life in light of eternity.
Due to the weather (ice, forecast of snow later today, wind, and cold temperatures) we will not hold our Ash Wednesday Worship Service this evening. Instead, we will observe our Ash Wednesday Worship Service this Sunday (2/22/15). The service will begin with the imposition of ashes for those who desire it.
