8 November 2019 – Advent Announcements

Share the Warmth – Outreach in October: We are grateful for your generous donations of warm clothing for folks in need in our community. In addition, thanks to a gift of cash and a $250 Thrivent grant, we are able to purchase coats for 15 children identified by friends at Frank Porter Graham Elementary in Chapel Hill. All gifts will be delivered and distributed through FPG next week. Contacts: Carolyn Jones and Lydia Berrong

Blessing Bags – Another Outreach Opportunity: Starting Sunday, November 10, our Thanks-Giving Tree will be set up in the Narthex to call attention to items needed to fill Blessings Bags, care kits to give homeless people we encounter. Our goal is to fill 100 bags so each Advent family will have several to share. Please note the sample bag, select tags from the tree, and return your items (with the tags) by November 24. We are planning a packing party after worship on December 1. Yes, let’s include the children at every level! This activity is also supported by a $250 Thrivent grant. Contacts: Judy Neely, Carolyn Jones, and Lydia Berrong

Yard Clean Up: On Saturday, November 16 at 9:00 a.m. there will be an outside yard clean-up to prepare the grounds for winter. Lunch will be served. See Paul Simis for more information.

30 Days of Thankfulness – Advent’s November focus, “30 Days of Thankfulness: Empowered by Grace,” includes our stewardship emphasis beginning November 17. Commitment Sunday follows on November 24. Using our time, talent and treasures for God’s purpose is a natural outcome of being thankful for all that God does for us. We pray that you will participate in our worship services and Bible studies.

Thanksgiving Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Please join us to thank God for everything he has given us.

Readings for Sunday, Nov. 10 (Prop. 27), 22nd Sunday after Pentecost: For those who wish to prepare for Sunday’s lessons, please read Ex. 3:1–15, Psalm 148, 2 Thess. 2:1–8, 13–17, Luke 20:27-40
