7 June, 2020 – Advent Announcements

RETURNING TO CHURCH – NO LIVE/IN-PERSON WORSHIP YET, BUT WE ARE GETTING CLOSER! Our tentative date we hope to return is Sunday, July 5th at 10:30 a.m. There would be no Sunday School, Bible Class, or Fellowship.

The Church Council has created a Subcommittee called ACTS (Advent Coronavirus Team of Safety), and we are considering all that we can, in order for us to safely return to worship in-person. After discussing this, at length, we want to inform that—like so much in society—things will look a bit different than they have in the past. We hope everyone can be flexible and understanding, and we want to stress the importance for us all to be considerate of other’s thoughts and feelings during this process. We also plan to have videos of the services for those who are not yet ready to return to worship at church. More details will follow as we near July 5th.  Should you have questions, please contact Dave Neely dave.neely@hotmail.com or Pastor Scott scott_lohman@sbcglobal.net to discuss these.

Virtual Worship Services – We continue with our Virtual Worship Services online. An email will go out Sunday with our Worship Service. You may also check our YouTube Channel: Advent Lutheran Church Chapel Hill or take a look at the Website: www.AdventLutheranCH.org.

Join us this Wednesday “VIRTUALLY!” for our Bible Class – Join us on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. We are now looking at the Book of Judges.

Advent Lutheran is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

The Church Council has created a Subcommittee called ACTS (Advent Coronavirus Team of Safety), and we are considering all that we can, in order for us to safely return to worship in person. As many facets as possible are being reviewed: The Government’s Orders and Suggestions, Including the CDC; North Carolina and local trends; How our Church Body and other churches are handling all this; What medical and mental health professionals are saying; Air flow (HVAC, singing, speaking in unison, etc.); People flow (with physical distancing, masks, sanitizing, etc.); and the like.  At this moment, we do not have a live, return to worship date, and it is important for us all to be considerate of others thoughts and feelings during this process.  Should you have questions, please contact Dave Neely dave.neely@hotmail.com or Pastor Scott scott_lohman@sbcglobal.net to discuss these.

Advent Coronavirus Team of Safety!

We are looking for some Advent members and friends to join a task force to develop a detailed re-opening plan for Advent.  The team should be cross-generational, so we get a variety of inputs.  We are also looking for some on the committee to have expertise in the following areas: medical, hygiene, IT, etc. No travel necessary as the meetings will be Zoom type and this will be a short term commitment to develop the opening plan, and early stages of re-opening. If you are interested, contact Pastor scott_lohman@sbcglobal.net or Dave Neely dave.neely@hotmail.com

RETURNING TO CHURCH – NO LIVE/IN-PERSON WORSHIP YET, BUT WE ARE GETTING CLOSER!

The Church Council has begun discussion on our returning to church in person. We’ll consider the Governor’s Orders and Suggestions, and we’ll look at going back when it is safe to do so.

Based on our latest round of health, safety and spiritual calls, everyone is well and doing OK.

Thanks to everyone who provided input for returning to face to face services. Nearly all aspects were included in the recommendations. The primary areas addressed included communion, seating, worship (songs/service), fellowship, greeting, passing the peace and refreshments.

Also, we are discussing our entering the building and moving around. We are considering flow and cleanliness. It is likely we will enter through the front/main entrance. We’ll be encouraged to wear masks and keep social distance measures, as well being dismissed by an usher.

We are concerned about keeping everyone healthy and are looking at everything: Bibles and hymnals; Bulletins/Screens; Communion preparation and practices; Removal/moving of chairs throughout the building; Having multiple services; Having outdoor service; Deep cleaning/Continual clean-up; Considering the Governor’s guidelines; Etc.

In our considerations, were looking at our populous of those who attend and serve, and bearing in mind age and health concerns, we want to use due care in this situation.

Finally, each family/person will make their own decision on when it is safe to return to church.

The Council will have a Zoom meeting on Saturday May 9th to begin to develop our plan of action and steps that will be taken before we “open the doors.”  As this plan develops, we will keep you informed of the progress and the actions that will be taken. Thanks and be safe. Advent Church Council
